During our Tanzania Cycling Safari 7 Days you will visit Mto Wa Mbu, Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Olduvai Gorge, Serengeti National Park and Tarangire National Park to make this a truly unforgettable cycling and bike riding experience.
This Cycling Tanzanian Safari Experience is 7 days long and the amazing things that you witness will stay with you forever, our Tanzania Cycling Safari 7 Days is a great way to experience the wild beauty of Tanzania.
Day 1. Your arrival at Arusha or Moshi.
You will arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and will be met by a member of the DSM Tours and Safaris Team and transfered to your hotel or lodge Arusha or Moshi.
The rest of the day is free to relax, recover from your flight and prepare to start your Tanzania Cycling Safari 7 Days early the next morning.
Day 2. Moshi or Arusha to Mto Wa Umbu.
We start with an early morning drive from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha to the small but largely populated village of Mto wa Umbu, Kiswahili (River of Mosquitoes).
The village is populated by almost 50 different tribes and has some of the most colorful and liveliest markets in Tanzania. In the 1960’s an ambitious irrigation project was started in order to turn what was predominantly swamp land into farm land and was a huge success.
Today you will have a chance to experience this up-close, you will have a cycling tour through the banana plantations to Lake Manyara (without entering the National Park) where you can view some of the game and if water permits, you may have the chance to walk up close to the beautiful flamingos.
From there you will cycle back into town where your bicycles will be left and you will walk from here through the local irrigation systems and farm lands. You will be able to see the rice plantations, the enormous baobabs and have a traditional Swahili lunch provided by a local women’s group.
This is a full day packed with culture, sights and amazing landscapes.
Day 3. Ngorongoro Crater via Olduvai Gorge to Serengeti National Park.
After breakfast we depart Mto wa Umbu en route Olduvai Gorge, known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’.
It was here, in the Great Rift Valley, that the remains of early hominids dating back 2 million years were uncovered.
Following this, we visit the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world, Serengeti National Park. The word ‘Serengeti’ means ‘endless plains’, which describes the park’s 5600 square mile boundary. The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth.
We shall stay overnight within the Serengeti National Park and enjoy a relaxing dinner and rest.
Day 4. Serengeti National Park.
After a good breakfast, we shall be spending the full day cycling within The Serengeti National Park.
The Serengeti boasts one of the most varied collections of wildlife on the planet. Annually, from May to December, millions of animals embark on a migration which brings them from central Serengeti to Kenya’s Maasai Mara and back again in an incredible spectacle.
Do not worry though, if you are visiting Tanzania outside of the migration seasons you will still see vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle roaming the land. You will also witness groups of elephant, giraffe, and buffalo, as the lions, leopard, cheetah, hyenas and jackals stalk their meals through the bush.
We will spend another night here within the boundaries of Serengeti National Park.
Day 5. Ngorongro Crater Conservation Area.
After departing The Serengeti, we travel to the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater.
At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5’ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard.
This truly world-class attraction is also known as the ‘8th Wonder of the World’.
We will return to Mto wa Umbu for another stay overnight.
Day 6. Tarangire National Park.
After a good night sleep and a nice break we depart to Tarangire National Park for some more high quality game viewing.
Tarangire is a small park which offers some incredible sights and wildlife. In the dry season Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and bird life congregate on the Tarangire River, which is a permanent source of water.
We shall spend our final night inside the park and enjoy the stunning views and unique atmosphere of being so close to nature.
Day 7. Return To Arusha or Moshi.
For our final day we will travel to Arusha or Moshi where you will have the rest of the afternoon to relax after your great Tanzania Cycling Safari 7 Days and explore the town, especially the Masai market.
